The nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the Class of '14 have been announced. I officially feel old knowing Nirvana is on the list. Also up for nomination are Kiss, Hall and Oates, The Zombies, Cat Stevens, Deep Purple, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel and Yes, as well as a few others.
Now, knowing the Hall would be useless if everyone got in, if you only had three votes, who would you pick?
Personally I'd go with The Zombies, Yes and Deep Purple. The Zombies were far more influential than their handful of hits indicate, and younger generations continue to discover their "Odessey and Oracle" album, a true landmark recording. Yes were, are and will always be the standard-bearer for progressive rock, and now that both Genesis and Rush have been inducted, there's no excuse to shut them out anymore. Deep Purple proved highly influential in hard rock and heavy metal and were one of the greatest live acts of their time.
I probably would want a few others in the Hall as well from this list, but rules are rules, and you only get three! Those are mine. --Leif Erickson
