FRANK 107.5 was at the Grand Opening celebration of Portland's newest event space, Aura.
Aura (formally known as The Aslyum) was a great venue before the remodel but now it's a venue that is second to none in New England.
After it's $9.1 million renovation, the venue is able host a wider range of events, including more national concerts, weddings and conferences.
The renovated main concert space has a capacity of about 1,000 people, compared with roughly 500 before. There are multiple bars in public and private areas, live feed video of the stage everywhere, and two VIP lounges. A full schedule and tickets to shows are available here.
Aura (formerly the Asylum) at 121 Center St. in Portland will be opening soon after almost two years of construction and planning. The new facility will house a concert venue that will seat 1,000, a sports bar that is currently open, functions rooms that can be used for many things from holiday parties to wedding receptions and more.
This is a photo of the stage and it is a monster!
As we walked through Aura we had safety glasses and hard hats on due to construction but you could really see what an unbelievable state-of-the-art venue this will be soon.
Here is a photo of the stage looking down from the balcony area. The sightlines will be like no other venue in the state. Not a bad seat in the house!
Another amazing feature of Aura will be the state-of-the-art sound and lighting system designed by Alex Gray.
Many shows have already been booked at Aura and here is a list of what is scheduled through June 8th. There will be many more announced soon.

The black Pontiac Firebird Trans Am has been an iconic sports car ever since the 1977 film Smokey and the Bandit. Now, thanks to Burt Reynolds and a company named Trans Am Depot, the car is back.
Trans Am Depot introduced a new, extremely limited, Trans AM SE Bandit Edition, an updated version of the 1977 Pontiac Firebird Tran Am. “That car is what we used as a starting point,” the company explained. “It’s gotta’ be modern where people look at it and know what it is. If you don’t have T-Tops you don’t have a Trans Am.”
The automaker highlighted the wheels it chose for the limited edition Bandit, too, noting that the white lettered tires aren’t made anymore, but were required to add nostalgia to the car. You’ll also find an 840HP engine under the hood.
Burt Reynolds had a huge influence on the new Trans Am, and the custom car company noted that it wouldn’t have been able to make it without input from the actor. As such, Burt Reynolds has signed all 77 of the limited edition Trans Am SE Bandit Editions that the company will sell.

A man (Ryan Favro) from Toronto, Canada, had coffee thrown at him outside a Tim Hortons after confronting a woman who parked in a handicapped space despite not being disabled. In the footage he asks the woman if she is disabled, to which she replies 'no', before he adds: 'What makes you so special that you can park in a handicapped spot?' The woman threatens him, saying she will 'break your f***ing nose' if he doesn't stop filming, before throwing two drinks at him and driving off. It is not clear whether the man took the footage to the police, or if officers decided to take any action.
An opera singer surprised the judges on "Spain's Got Talent" when she switched from singing in opera to full-on rock 'n' roll. The contestant, Cristina Ramos, auditioned on the show earlier last week and started with an angelic performance of what appeared to be an opera ballad while wearing an all-black dress before the music was interrupted by a loud guitar. She then ripped off her skirt and belted out AC/DC's "Highway To Hell".
A controversial new weight loss device is being tested in the U.S. It’s called AspireAssist. The device can drain up to 30 percent of the food that a user has just eaten out of their stomach before it becomes digested. Researchers say the device is a simpler and cheaper alternative to bariatric surgery that is less invasive and fully reversible. And they say it works to help patients lose weight and keep it off. The device consists of a tube that is inserted into the stomach, connected to a poker-chip-sized port on the outside of the abdomen. Twenty minutes after eating, the patient attaches the AspireAssist device to the port, opens a lever and sucks food out of the stomach into the toilet. The company has been selling the device in Europe for almost five years. It is now applying for approval to sell it in the U.S. and Canada as well.

In China, there’s a job opening that’s bound to receive applications from basically everyone on Earth. It involves getting paid $32,000 a year to do just one thing: hug baby pandas all day long.
The caretaker position is being offered at the Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in Ya’an, Sichuan province, as part of a campaign to raise awareness for panda protection work.
You have to be at least 22 years old, have basic panda knowledge, and have good writing and photography skills. On top of the salary, benefits include the use of a company car, free meals, and accommodation.
According to the organisers, this is China’s version of Australia’s ‘The Best Job in the World’, which involved someone becoming the caretaker of an island on the Great Barrier Reef.
‘Your work has only one mission: spending 365 days with the pandas and sharing in their joys and sorrows’, they said.
